United States Overtime Regulations
1.5× pay for hours beyond 40/week. No daily OT. No double time. Salary threshold for exemption: $684/week ($35,568/year).
California, Nevada, Colorado, and others add daily OT (after 8h), double time (after 12h), and higher salary thresholds. When state and federal rules differ, the rule giving the employee higher pay applies.
Federal FLSA only counts weekly hours. Several states add daily limits — a 10-hour day generates 2 hours of daily OT in California but zero OT under federal rules alone.
