Canada Overtime Regulations

Federal Standard
Canada Labour Code

1.5× after 8h/day or 40h/week for federally regulated industries (banking, telecom, transportation). Most workers fall under provincial rules.

Provincial Differences
Each province sets its own

Ontario: 1.5× after 44h/week. BC: 1.5× after 8h/day or 40h/week. Quebec: 1.5× after 40h/week. Alberta: 1.5× after 8h/day or 44h/week.

Key Difference
No single federal standard

Unlike the US FLSA, Canada has no single federal overtime law covering all workers. Rules depend on province and industry. Some provinces use daily OT, others weekly only.
