Add Time Calculator
Add up several hours-and-minutes entries into one total. Enter each time below — the calculator carries every 60 minutes into an hour and shows the total in both hours-and-minutes and decimal hours for payroll.
How to add hours and minutes
Time does not add like ordinary numbers, because an hour is 60 minutes, not 100. Add the minutes column first, roll every 60 minutes into one hour, then add the hours. So 2:45 + 1:30 + 0:50 is 125 minutes (2 hours 5 minutes) plus 3 hours, which is 5 hours 5 minutes.
For payroll, convert that to decimal: 5 minutes ÷ 60 = 0.08, so 5:05 is 5.08 decimal hours. Use the decimal hours calculator if you need the conversion on its own, or the time card calculator to build a full week from clock in/out times.
Frequently asked questions
Add the minutes first, carry every 60 minutes over as one hour, then add the hours. Three entries of 2:45, 1:30, and 0:50 add to 5 hours 5 minutes. This calculator carries the minutes for you.
Enter each day as hours and minutes and read the running total. If you are starting from clock in/out times instead, the time card calculator is faster — it turns punches into daily and weekly totals.
Payroll and billing multiply a decimal by a rate. A total of 5 hours 5 minutes is 5.08 decimal hours, so at $20 an hour that is $101.67. The minutes become a fraction when you divide by 60.
The calculator carries them. If your entries total 130 minutes, that is 2 hours 10 minutes, and those 2 hours roll into the hours column automatically.
