Blended Overtime Rate Calculator
Work two pay rates in one week and your overtime is based on a weighted average of them — the blended rate. Enter the hours and rate for each job to get the blended regular rate and the overtime owed under the FLSA.
Overtime applies to hours over 40 combined. The premium is half the blended rate, on top of the straight-time pay already counted — so OT hours total 1.5× the blended rate.
How the weighted average works
The FLSA does not let an employer pick the lower rate for overtime. When you work two rates in a week, overtime is built on the weighted average of everything you earned. Add the straight-time pay from both jobs, divide by all the hours, and that is your regular rate for the week.
Take 30 hours at $20 ($600) and 20 hours at $15 ($300). That is $900 over 50 hours, a blended rate of $18. The 10 hours over 40 get an extra half of $18 — $9 each, or $90. Straight time ($900) plus the $90 premium is $990 for the week.

When you work two different pay rates in the same week, the FLSA bases your overtime on a weighted average of those rates — the "blended" or "regular" rate. It is the total straight-time pay divided by the total hours worked.
Add the pay from each job (hours × rate), then divide by the total hours. If you worked 30 hours at $20 and 20 hours at $15, that is ($600 + $300) ÷ 50 = $18 an hour. Overtime over 40 hours is paid at half that rate on top, because straight time is already counted.
You have already been paid straight time for every hour, including the overtime hours. The overtime premium adds the extra half, so the OT hours end up at 1.5× the blended rate in total. That is the FLSA method.
Some states use the rate in effect when the overtime hours were worked, or have daily overtime rules, which can change the figure. Check your state overtime rules; this calculator uses the federal weighted-average method.
