Slovenia — EURES living & working conditions ↗

Slovenia's standard week is 40 hours. Overtime is paid at the regular wage plus a premium of at least +30%, with higher rates for Sunday, holiday and night work.

  • Overtime premium of at least +30% of the basic hourly wage.
  • Higher premiums apply for Sunday work (+50%), public holidays (+100%) and night work (+30–50%).
  • Overtime is capped at 8 hours a week, 20 hours a month and 170 hours a year (extendable to 230 with consent).

This applies the +30% statutory minimum for regular overtime; a collective agreement can set a higher rate.

Frequently asked questions

Is overtime pay the same across the EU?

No. The EU Working Time Directive sets shared limits — an average 48-hour maximum week (including overtime), minimum daily and weekly rest, and paid leave — but it does not set overtime pay rates. Premiums are decided nationally, and in several countries by collective agreement rather than statute.

How is overtime paid in Slovenia?

In Slovenia, overtime above 40 hours a week is paid at a statutory premium of 30%. Higher rates can apply for night, Sunday and public-holiday work. See the rules below for the exact figures.

Can a collective agreement change the overtime rate?

Yes. In most EU countries a sector or company collective agreement can set overtime rates above the statutory minimum, or replace premium pay with compensatory time off. Always check the agreement that applies to your role.
