Portugal Overtime Rules
Portugal's standard week is 40 hours. Overtime on a working day is paid at +25% for the first hour and +37.5% for each hour after, and +50% on rest days and public holidays.
- Working-day overtime: +25% for the first hour, then +37.5% for each subsequent hour.
- Rest days and public holidays: +50% per hour.
- Standard hours are 8 a day and 40 a week; overtime is capped (commonly 150–175 hours a year) and can carry compensatory rest.
Portugal calculates overtime per day; this weekly estimate applies the +25% first-hour and +37.5% rates to your weekly overtime hours. Rest-day and public-holiday work is higher (+50%), and a collective agreement can change the figures.
