Greece Overtime Rules
Greece's statutory week is 40 hours over 5 days. The 41st–45th hours are 'overwork', paid at +20%; lawful overtime beyond 45 hours is paid at +40%.
- 'Overwork' (the 41st to 45th weekly hours): +20%.
- Lawful overtime beyond 45 hours a week (or 9 hours a day): +40%.
- Overtime that is not properly authorised ('illegal overtime') must be paid at +120%.
Daily limits also apply (8 hours standard). This estimate applies +20% to the first 5 overtime hours and +40% beyond. A collective agreement can set higher rates.
Frequently asked questions

In Greece, overtime above 40 hours a week is paid at a statutory premium that rises with the number of overtime hours. Higher rates can apply for night, Sunday and public-holiday work. See the rules below for the exact figures.
Yes. In most EU countries a sector or company collective agreement can set overtime rates above the statutory minimum, or replace premium pay with compensatory time off. Always check the agreement that applies to your role.
