Estonia Overtime Rules
Estonia's standard week is 40 hours. Overtime is compensated with time off in lieu, or paid at +50% (1.5×) of the regular wage.
- Overtime is first compensated with time off in lieu; if paid instead, the rate is +50%.
- Overtime requires the employee's agreement and is capped by the working-time limits.
- Average working time may not exceed 48 hours a week over a 4-month reference period.
This applies the +50% rate used when overtime is paid rather than taken as time off; a collective agreement can set a higher rate.
Frequently asked questions

In Estonia, overtime above 40 hours a week is paid at a statutory premium of 50%. Higher rates can apply for night, Sunday and public-holiday work. See the rules below for the exact figures.
Yes. In most EU countries a sector or company collective agreement can set overtime rates above the statutory minimum, or replace premium pay with compensatory time off. Always check the agreement that applies to your role.
