The basic formula

To convert a salary to an hourly wage, divide annual pay by the hours you actually work in a year: hourly = annual ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). A standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so a $60,000 salary is $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85/hour. To go the other way, multiply: $25/hour × 2,080 = $52,000 a year. The Salary to Hourly calculator does both directions and lets you set the hours and weeks.

Why hours and weeks matter

The 2,080-hour figure assumes a full 40-hour week with no unpaid time off. Change the inputs and the hourly equivalent moves: a 37.5-hour week (1,950 hours) raises the implied hourly rate, and counting two unpaid weeks off (50 paid weeks) raises it further. Part-time and seasonal workers should enter their real schedule rather than the 2,080 default. For pay split across each cheque, the Biweekly Pay calculator shows gross per pay period for weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly schedules.

What the conversion does not include

This is a gross-pay conversion — before taxes, and before the value of benefits, paid leave, or employer contributions. Two jobs with the same hourly rate can differ a lot once health coverage, retirement matching, and PTO are counted. A salary may also bundle expectations of unpaid overtime that an hourly rate would pay for. Treat the converted number as a starting point for comparison, not a full picture of compensation.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert salary to hourly?

Divide annual salary by the hours worked per year. Full-time is usually 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85/hour. Adjust the hours and weeks for part-time or unpaid time off.

How many work hours are in a year?

A standard full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks). If you take unpaid weeks off or work a shorter week, use your actual hours — for example 37.5 hours × 50 weeks = 1,875 hours.

Does the conversion include taxes and benefits?

No. It is a gross-pay conversion before taxes and before the value of benefits, paid leave, or employer contributions. Use it to compare offers, not as take-home pay.

How do I convert hourly to salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by hours worked per year. At $25/hour and 2,080 hours, the annual equivalent is $52,000. The Salary to Hourly calculator does both directions instantly.
