Frequently asked questions

What is 13th month pay?

It is an extra payment, typically equal to one month's salary, paid once a year (often at year-end). In some countries it is a legal requirement; in others it is customary. A few countries pay a 14th month as well.

How is 13th month pay pro-rated?

If you did not work the full year, the bonus is usually scaled by the months you worked. This calculator multiplies one month's salary by the months worked divided by 12 (and by 2 where two extra payments apply).

Which countries require 13th month pay?

It is mandatory in much of Latin America (e.g., Brazil, Mexico) and the Philippines, and common across parts of Europe (Portugal, Italy, Spain, Greece). Rules and exact formulas vary by country.

Is the calculation the same everywhere?

No. For example the Philippines uses total basic salary ÷ 12, while Mexico's Aguinaldo is a minimum of 15 days' pay. Treat this as an estimate and confirm the local statutory formula.
