Austria Overtime Rules
Austria's normal hours are 8 a day and 40 a week. Overtime carries a statutory premium of at least +50%, rising to +100% for some night and weekend work.
- +50% surcharge on overtime hours, in money or as equivalent time off in lieu.
- +100% for certain night-time, Sunday and public-holiday overtime, and where a collective agreement provides it.
- Standard limits are 8h/day and 40h/week; the absolute maximum is 12 hours a day and 60 hours a week, averaged down over the reference period.
Many details — higher surcharges and all-in salary clauses — are set by the applicable collective agreement (Kollektivvertrag). This estimate applies the +50% rate to weekly hours over 40.
